Virgin Australia Lounge – Melbourne

I’ve visited the Virgin Australia Lounge in Melbourne several times, either when flying Business Class or as a Gold Velocity member. It’s easily one of my favourite lounges, as it’s spacious, comfortable, and offering sweeping views of the apron that any plane spotter would appreciate!

The one consistent issue I’ve noticed is the lack of timely clearing of plates and glasses from tables. Even the wonderful window seat I scored needed a bit of attention, I had to clear away used dishes and grab some napkins to wipe it down. This is one area that definitely needs improvement here at the Melbourne lounge.

Wraps at the Virgin Australia Lounge – Melbourne

The food offerings are quite solid. In addition to pre-made wraps like egg and lettuce or chicken Caesar, there’s a good variety of light bites available, enough to satisfy without being overdone.

…and of course, like many lounges across Australia, there’s the classic “make your own toastie” station, a reliable favourite for some, though I usually give it a miss.

Pea and ham soup at the Virgin Australia Lounge – Melbourne

From the hot food selection, during my visit there was a pea and ham soup on offer. It’s tasty enough, but I’ll be honest, it didn’t come close to my mum’s version!

Asian-style rice noodle salad at the Virgin Australia Lounge – Melbourne

Next up I had a serve of the Asian style vegetarian rice noodle salad—light, refreshing, sweet and sour, with just the right hint of spice. I was quite fond of this, especially when paired with a glass of the Grant Burge Chardonnay, which complemented the flavours nicely.

Cheese and crackers (with seeded mustard) at the Virgin Australia Lounge – Melbourne

Finally, I finished with some cheese and crackers, adding a touch of seeded mustard. While a quince or fruit paste would’ve been better, and while it might sound like an odd combo, it actually works surprisingly well, full of flavour and a great finish.

Overall, the Virgin Australia Lounge in Melbourne offers a comfortable and enjoyable preflight experience. While cleanliness could be improved, the food, space, and views make it a worthwhile stop for eligible travellers.

  1. I don’t think I’ve tried cheese and crackers with seeded mustard but I’ll give it a go today! And that is frustrating when you have to clean up a table yourself and it sounds like a consistent problem too from what you’ve noticed.
