Jumbo Hostel – Arlanda Airport, Stockholm, Sweden.

Last year I had a brief stopover in Stockholm, Sweden and I had heard of this fantastic hostel right at the airport in a converted Boeing 747-200. Of course, being the freakyflier that I am I had to stay there. 🙂

Built in 1976, the aircraft is a decomissioned Boeing 747-200 that was headed for the scrapheap, t was originally built for Singapore Airlines and served with Pan Am and Transjet.

The hostel features 27 rooms with 76 bunk beds (each with LCD tv’s) and 6 communal bathrooms (which are larger than a commercial aircraft toilet) and for the plane spotters you get a great view of Stockholm Arlanda airport runway! Price are very reasonable (for Scandinavia) and there are several room types including the cockpit suite.

There is a cafe in the forward nose of the aircraft where you can purchase breakfast, ready made meals, salads and sandwiches and drinks.

The upperdeck has been transformed into a lounge area with the original seats from 1976. Not much was happening when I was there but I could see it could be used for lots of fun, movie nights etc.  It can be hired for a full day for meetings for up to 8 people.

Just outside the upperdeck was a great sitting area, perfect for catching some sunrays and the taxiing aircraft.

I had such a great time staying at the Jumbo Hostel and I highly reccomend it. To book visit Expedia.com.au
