Today marked the start of another Chinese carrier serving Australia. Hainan airlines (HU) will fly an Airbus A330-200 three times a week between Shenzhen and Hangzhou and Sydney. Shenzhen, located on mainland China near Hong Kong and Hangzhou, also on the mainland near Shanghai are both important financial, trade and industrial cities and with populations of 14 million and 8 million respectively, there is a good chance of growth in Chinese tourists visiting Australia. Hainan airlines is the 4th chinese carrier to serve Australia (Air China from Beijing and Shanghai, China Eastern from Shanghai and China Southern from Guangzhou) the 4th largest Chinese carrier and the largest independantly owned carrier in China. It is also one of only 7 airlines and the only Chinese carrier to be ranked a 5 star airline by Skytrax.
