I was in Brisbane for the day and arranged to meet my friend Michelle and her husband Mark for a belated birthday celebration near the airport. She suggested Thai Naramit, and what a fantastic choice it was! The food was delicious, the atmosphere welcoming, and the service excellent.

I loved the décor, a charming blend of Thai influences, shabby chic style, and whimsical touches. The light filled, airy space created a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it the perfect setting for a delicious and relaxing lunch.

Even the plates were beautifully designed, adding an extra touch of elegance and charm to the dining experience and perfectly complementing the restaurant’s distinctive décor.

While Mark and I shared a bottle of Haselgrove ‘Staff’ Chardonnay from the Adelaide Hills ($39), Michelle opted for the Frozen Margarity. Although it wasn’t particularly frozen, it looked stunning, garnished with a dried blood orange slice, an edible flower, and a sprig of rosemary.

For entrée, we chose classic Thai favourites: chicken satay and fish cakes. The satays were excellent, but the peanut sauce stole the show which was sweet, rich, and utterly irresistible with a gentle kick.

However, the Thai fish cakes are also fantastic and some of the best I’ve ever tasted. Unlike the flat, rubbery pre-frozen versions you often find, these are handmade, plump, light, and incredibly juicy. Each bite is packed with flavour, with a wonderfully moist and fluffy texture that sets them apart from others so often found.

Of course, no Thai meal would be complete without a serving of jasmine rice. Warm and fluffy, it carried the beautifully fragrant aroma that makes jasmine rice such a perfect accompaniment to Thai cuisine.

Fiery, salty and deeply savoury, this dish delivers layers of rich flavour with a pronounced herbaceous finish. Fresh garlic, bird’s eye chillies, oyster sauce, soy sauce and a touch of fish sauce create the base, while the Thai basil, just lightly wilted with its distinctive peppery, clove like and subtle anise notes cut beautifully through the richness of the duck, creating a wonderfully balanced and aromatic dish.

While the dish shares some flavour characteristics with the duck, it delivers a distinctly different taste experience. The prawns are impressively large and crispy on the outside, plump and juicy within. It embodies everything great Thai cuisine offers: sweet, salty, savoury and spicy flavours, all enhanced by a beautiful aroma.
Thai Naramit is a wonderful place to catch up with friends while enjoying spectacular Thai cuisine, warm hospitality, and a relaxed atmosphere that you’ll want to revisit, I know I do.
