I’m spending some time with my cousin Cath and her daughter Em, who are visiting from Canada. They’d had a big day out on the reef, so I was looking for somewhere easy for dinner, something enjoyable, relaxed and great value. When I heard about Taco Tuesday at Muddy’s, I knew I’d found a winner!

Fish Tacos & Salt and Pepper Calamari Tacos – AU$15 (Taco Tuesday)

Normally $21 for three tacos, but on Tuesdays they’re just $15! I honestly don’t think you could make them at home for any cheaper. Since Cath is pescatarian and loves her Aussie seafood adventures, we went for two different varieties: the fish tacos and the salt and pepper calamari tacos and both were absolutely delicious!

Salt and Pepper Calamari Tacos – AU$15 (Taco Tuesday)

I’d never tried a salt and pepper calamari taco before, so this was a bit of an interesting foray into new taco territory! It was packed with tender, flash-fried baby calamari pieces, crunchy slaw and house made aioli. The calamari was flavourful with a lovely crispy coating, while the slaw and creamy aioli brought everything together nicely. Definitely an unexpected but tasty combination!

Fish Tacos – AU$15 (Taco Tuesday)

You can choose grilled, battered or crumbed fish for the tacos. We went with grilled, and they didn’t disappoint! Served with slaw and house made chipotle aioli, which added a little heat. The fish is soft and flakey, a great contrast to the crisp slaw and they were absolutely delicious.

Halloumi Chips – AU$16

Served with house made aioli and a lemon wedge, these halloumi chips are divine! The squeaky cheese has a fabulous umami flavour, while the creamy aioli and fresh lemon lift the dish beautifully, adding a bright, tangy contrast that takes the flavour profile to another level.

Grilled Chicken Tacos AU$21

I headed back a few days later, keen to try the chicken tacos. You can choose either crispy or grilled chicken, and I opted for the grilled. Again, they didn’t disappoint, topped with a fresh slaw and chipotle aioli that had just the right amount of heat. A squeeze of fresh lime added a lovely zing, bringing all the flavours together.
