Let me take you on a day trip, its not your regular outing but for an aviation enthusiast its going to be a freaky good day! Late last year, when Jetstar received its first Boeing 787 Deamliner, they offered a few sectors domestically to ‘break-in’ the new aircraft and give the Australian travelling public a taste of it. The flights, Melbourne to the Gold Coast and Melbourne to Cairns, meant for me, a Sydneysider, had to travel to one of those cities and back, and that’s just what I did. Sydney to Melbourne (via Canberra) then to the Gold Coast and then back to Sydney.

Using some frequent flyer points, the first flight took me from Sydney to Canberra in Business Class on a very retro Boeing 737-400 and a delicious hot breakfast was served during the 30 minute flight.

I had about a 1 hour and 20 minute wait in Canberra and then boarded a Boeing 737-800 for a 1 hour Economy Class flight to Melbourne. On this flight I was treated to something special with a glass of sparkling Australian wine.

While in Melbourne, I had a guest pass to The Qantas Club, so I spent my time there until my 787 Dreamliner flight was called for boarding.

Then the main event – the 2 hour flight on Jetstars first Boeing 787 Dreamliner, in the Business Class cabin to the Gold Coast 🙂

My next flight was again in Business Class so upon arrival in the Gold Coast, it was off to The Qantas Club again for an hour or so before my final flight home.

The last leg of the journey was back home to Sydney, again with Qantas in Business Class on a Boeing 737-800 with wonderful service and a very yummy dinner on board.

It was a long day, it was a tiring day, but it was freaky fun and each flight, although slightly different was wonderful and I couldn’t fault a thing.
Would you have liked to come on this freaky day trip?
Hehe how do you hear about all of these flights and planes? Silly question I guess, aviation enthusiasts have their ways! And did you stay on the Gold Coast? I bet you got on the plane home because for you the treat is the flight! 😉
Nope just a total day trip.. I left at 8am landed back in Sydney at 8pm!
