“Tonight we have the traditional lasagne with steamed greens or the seared beef on glass noodles.” the cabin crew member discretely repeated to each passenger as he made his way down the centre aisle of the secluded Business Class cabin.
The food, it is the thing I get most excited about when taking a short flight in Business Class. Sure there is the dedicated premium security and boarding lanes plus there is that larger more comfortable seat. I was flying to Brisbane this busy Friday evening and the aircraft operating the full flight was a 3.5 year old Boeing 737-800, registered VH-VZX, named Daylesford 🙂

The 12 Business Class cradle seats were comfortable and looked sophisticated in a rich burgundy leather covering. Prior to take off one of the cabin crew came through the forward cabin and offered a glass of cloudy apple juice or water, I chose the latter. We had a slight delay on the tarmac with a baggage issue and a longer taxi than usual with us departing from the third runway to the north where we were in the air around 20 minutes after out scheduled departure.

On Qantas flights, the First and Business Class meals are designed by consulting Chef Neil Perry, so passengers are assured of dining pleasure. As mentioned, the choices were traditional lasagne with steamed greens or seared beef on glass noodles. Obviously, from the picture above, you can see my choice. Being a short flight, the meals were served from a trolly, but presented well. There was a choice of dinner rolls or sour dough bread. The sour dough bread was beautifully fresh, light and fluffy with a crunchy crust. Water was served with the meal at the same time as was a choice of either red or white wines, with which I chose a yummy Shaw and Smith Sauvignon Blanc.

The cold beef dish was fab. The thinly sliced pieces of rare beef had a lovely soft texture that almost melted in the mouth. The glass noodles were perfectly cooked, not too hard and stringy nor too soft and mushy with my tastebuds welcoming the fragrant hits of thai herbs such as lemon grass, and coriander and a slight punch of chilli, which made the dish really spectacular. The only thing I will say is that it was one of those dishes I usually don’t like to eat in public, slurping up noodles that splatters the sauce everywhere isn’t a nice look in Business Class, but I did my best to keep it clean.

The lemon cupcake for desert was equally tasty although a little on the cold side which made it a little hard. I had to quickly scoff this down as we started our descent.

We arrived in Brisbane only slightly behind schedule due to the quicker than normal flight time of only 1 hour. Again, it was an impressive flight with Qantas, great service and yummy food.
