Kaprao Crispy Chicken and Rice & the Samurai Burger at McDonalds, Thailand!

It’s time for another McDonalds post, this one is from Thailand! The usual rules apply: I’ll try a burger that is not available in Australia and I’ll have fries for comparison; if there is something else quite different on the menu, like gazpacho in Spain, I’ll grab that too. Today I am trying the Samurai burger and Kaprao crispy chicken with rice alongside a serve of regular fries from McDonalds in Bangkok.

Hungry, but battling a nasty head cold in my Bangkok hotel room, I find the room service menu uninspiring. The prospect of shelling out AU$30 for a lacklustre burger doesn’t appeal. Suddenly, inspiration strikes – McDonald’s delivery! The thought of warm, familiar, and new, comfort food delivered to my room becomes an enticing remedy for both my hunger and my head cold.

My order from McDonalds Bangkok

The meal looks ok, it’s still hot, but it does seem strange with the chicken and rice dish, this just doesn’t look like a Macca’s meal! I also think there are enough sauces, both tomato and chilli, but I know Thai people love their sauces, I’ve literally seen Thai’s put tomato sauce on pizza!

Fries from McDonalds Bangkok

I’m going to excuse that due to being delivered, these fries are not as crispy as could be. However, they are warm and quite tasty with the right saltiness.

When I order the Kaprao crispy chicken, I’m well aware it won’t resemble the advertised picture…

And it doesn’t… Although looking somewhat like a TV dinner, its actually quite good. The rice is fluffy and has a great taste as does the balls of crumbed chicken. They remind me of larger versions of chicken popcorn. The sauce is reminiscent of a sweet chilli sauce until I crunch on a big piece of chilli which is out of my chilli tolerance zone…but I persevere….

Next up is the samurai burger… again, I am not expecting it to look like its picture!

Despite its seemingly forlorn appearance, the samurai pork burger surprises with each bite, redeeming its initial unhappy look. This showcases the power of unique flavours on a burger, the sweetness of the teriyaki is wonderful, proving that in this case, appearances can be deceiving .

Samurai Burger

I really love this burger, the sweetness of the teriyaki works perfectly with the pork patty. It reminds me of a McRib when they have them in Australia – although I know they are two different sauces.

While the Kaprao crispy chicken with rice and the samurai burger aren’t like their pictures… McDonalds Thailand… you get 4.5 out of 5 stars!
