The Grand McExtreme Three Cheeses, Top Fries and Gazpacho at McDonalds, Spain.

One of my most popular posts recently was when I tried the Maharaja Mac at McDonalds India, so here I bring you a Macca’s burger from Spain – The Grand McExtreme Three Cheeses – Sounds delightful, right? But it doesn’t stop there! What about some McDonalds fries with cheese and bacon, chicken wings and a typically Spanish gazpacho… What the?

I’m staying right in the thick of it in Madrid on Gran Via, and although I have loved all the food I have been trying in Spain, I am a little bit ‘Jamon’d’ out! I think it’s time for some fast food and see what the local McDonalds has to offer.

Grand McExtreme €6.1. Top fries with bacon and cheese €2.85. Coke €1.95. Plastic tax €0.01.

While scrolling the menu, I am immediately fixated on the Grand McExtreme Three Cheeses burger. ‘…If you are passionate about cheese, you cannot miss the new McExtreme Three Cheeses with delicious cheddar cheese, a tasty Gouda cheese and a creamy camembert cheese sauce… It will not leave you indifferent!’. Yes! It’s for me! I am passionate about cheese! (And I long for this burger to not leave me indifferent).

Instead of the standard fries, I go for the ‘Top Fries, Bacon and Cheese’ which is described as ‘…The top version of our potatoes. Accompanied by cheese sauce and bacon, you will not be able to resist them!‘. I’m sure no one really knows whats in the cheese sauce (and I shudder to think…), but I hope I am not able to resist them…

Alongside the burger and fries I order a coke – nothing to report about it other than I found it interesting to be charged a plastic tax which I guess is for the lid as no straw was provided.

As per usual, the burger looks nothing like the advertisement but I am blown way by the size of the burger bun. It’s darn huge! And to think this could come with double or triple meat patties…

Grand McExtreme burger three cheese €6.10.

The three cheeses look a little sad and the meat patty doesn’t seem to actually fit the burger bun, the whole thing tastes really dry. The fried onion reminds me of the overpowering flavours of fried onion you might get with a packet of Asian noodles. Sadly this burger is a disappointment and it does leave me feeling indifferent.

Top fries with bacon and cheese €2.85

The top fries with bacon and cheese are actually quite good! Its real pieces of bacon and although the cheese sauce kind of scares me, overall these are tasty. Hey Macca’s, can we bring these to Australia please?

Chicken wings €3.05. Gazpacho €2.1.

Later that evening (after a bit of a bar hop and on my way back to the hotel), I dare to stop in at Macca’s again for a snack. This time I pick up some chicken wings and a very Spanish gazpacho.

Chicken wings €3.05. Gazpacho €2.1.

Stick to doing fries Macca’s! The wings are crispy but tasteless, I’m not sure whether they should have a sauce on them, but they taste like plain wings just popped on the oven. Strangely though, the gazpacho, which I really only got for the novelty value, tastes pretty darn good! Its refreshing, thick and punchy.

So the fries and gazpacho were good, but the burger and chicken wings, I think I’ll give them a miss next time!

Where in the world have you tried McDonalds? Any tips?

I stayed at the Hostal Felipe V, located on Grand Via right in the city. If you’re looking to stay in Madrid, book through Booking.com as I did here.

  1. It always amazes me when McDonalds does something badly. Haven’t they taste tested the items thoroughly before they become part of the menu. And lol about the it will not leave you indifferent line (and haha that it did!).

    1. I know! It amazes me when it looks and sounds so great but when you get it you wouldn’t feed it to a stray dog! Hahaha
