Happy New Year! Goodbye 2017, Hello 2018!

Happy New Year! Goodbye 2017, Hello 2018!

I spent a lot of time travelling in 2017 and I’ve just calculated it, I flew 97,707 kilometres. That’ just just over 2 times the circumference of our beautiful planet.

I visited 24 cities over 11 countries. Paris, Berlin, New York and San Francisco were some of the highlights as was the city of Krakow, surprisingly beautiful! Although the nearby concentration camp of Auschwitz was extremely sad and thought provoking.

But for me, the cultures of Asia and the history of Europe was nothing compared to the stunning beauty of Western Canada and the Rocky Mountains. Just breathtaking! If there is one place you get to travel to in 2018, make it Canada!

Of course a big part of travel is the food!!! And I ate well across four continents – every thing from fancy pants to junk food, cheap and cheerful to expensive delicacies. From Roti Canai in Penang for AUD0.70 to cooking my own Thai Feast in Chiang Mai to snails in France to good old ‘In ‘n’ Out’ burger in San Francisco. Yummo!

For the AvGeek, I flew with 9 different airlines in 2017, Qantas, Air Asia, Air Asia X, Thai Airways, Finnair, Cathay Pacific, WestJet, Jetstar and the now defunct Air Berlin on a variety of aircraft including the new Airbus a350 on Finnair, Airbus a380 on Qantas and Thai Airways and Boeing 777-300 on Cathay Pacific. My favourite aircraft for 2017 – The s350, my favourite flight – WestJet!

2018 – I’ll be heading across the Pacific.

So where to for me in 2018? Well it’s back to the stunning scenery of Western Canada before embarking on a 16 night transpacific cruise from Vancouver to Tokyo. I’ve never been to Japan so this is really looking like a great experience. Other than that, I’m going to stick a little closer to home and experience more of what Australia has to offer.

I hope you had a wonderful 2017 and 2018 is looking great. Do you have any travel plans in motion for 2018?
