By this stage I am sure we are all getting a little weary with these flights. This is the third and final leg of my journey from Sydney to Buenos Aires.  So far I’ve flown from Sydney to Auckland where we stopped for 2 hours, then I’ve taken the 10 hour and 15 minute trek across the South Pacific from Auckland to Santiago de Chile. With just over 2 hours spent at Santiago airport, I sat mesmerised, not so much at the arriving aircraft but the enormous snow capped Andes Mountains (and thinking of that movie Alive). In fact by the time I boarded this last leg of the journey, most of my AvGeek excitement was wearing off and I kinda forgot to take many photo’s, sorry folks.

The Aircraft

For this short 2 hour sector I am on another Dreamliner but this time the smaller 787-8 variant.

LATAM (LAN) operates a fleet of 10 Boeing 787-8’s and the one I was flying on, registered CC-BBG, was delivered to the airline in August 2014, yet seemed relatively new. The aircraft features 217 Economy and 30 Business Class seats.

The Seat

Pretty much the same as, if not identical to, the seats on the flights from Sydney and from Auckland.

It’s obvious LATAM (LAN) has fitted out its fleet of Dreamliners with the same kit and its a good thing. Configured 3-3-3 in Economy Class with a width of 17.3″ and a pitch of 32″ they were comfortable enough for the long haul flights and therefor fine for this short sector.

The Service

When it comes to a snack service, some airlines will stand back and throw it to you like a pitcher in a ball game. 1, 2, 3 hut!

Delightfully, this wasn’t so with LATAM and even thought the service was brisk on this shorter sector, it was conducted with a smile and the snack was handed politely.  While one crew member offered the roll, the other offered a choice of drinks, tea, coffee, cola or juice.

The almost croissant-like roll, was filled with ham and cheese and filling enough for this afternoon flight and was offered with a chocolate (which I will add was delicious!). I had a coke and a cup of water – which unlike the longhaul flights – were served in a plastic cup.

The Verdict

We touched down right on schedule and after making my way through immigration and customs I tiredly fought it out with the taxi touts. ¡Hola! Buenos Aires, I was finally here! After my 3rd and final LATAM flight – well that is until I head home, I found LATAM to be a good decent airline and the Dreamliner did taking reduce my jet lag compared to long haul flights on other aircraft types. Both the hard product (aircraft, seats, entertainment) as well as the soft product (food, crew) were well worth the 4 stars the airline is awarded.
