QANTAS Sydney International Business Lounge.

“Champagne, Champagne for everyone!” – Matt Lucas character of Bubbles – Little Britain.

When you’re about to leave on an overseas trip, what a better place to start than in an Airport Lounge and if its morning, why not partake in a Champagne Breakfast! Ok, it’s not champagne on the menu here at the QANTAS International Business Lounge but a rather nice sparkling.

QANTAS Lounges, up the escalator.

Located a short walk from QANTAS’ flagship International First Lounge, the International Business Lounge is tucked away, airside, on the mezzanine level of the departures hall, making the hustle and bustle of the duty free stores and restaurants feel miles away.

When I first arrived the space felt small, as it was quite crowded with the morning rush of departures, and it took awhile to find a seat. Pretty soon though, the crowds thinned and the lounge gave a more spacious feeling.

There is not much of a view, for a ‘planespotter’ there was no ‘plane-porn’, only of the roof of the main terminal and up to the QANTAS International first lounge, was it alluding to lounge-envy and giving me aspirations to one day be sitting up there, thats where they serve the real Champagne. Nonetheless, I was happy to be where I was.

While I perused the hot and cold food options, a waiter was walking around with Grand Marnier pancakes. I caught her eye in order to get the last serving.  They were simply delish and went perfect with a glass of Seppelt The Drives NV sparkling.

The breakfast options were quite vast. From the cold food selection there were bowls of fresh fruit plus thick cut fresh fruit salad. Portions of yoghurt with fruit and and array of fresh pastries were also on offer.

Hot food selection at the QANTAS International Business Lounge, Sydney.

From the hot food selection, there was baked beans, hash browns, bacon, chicken sausages, free range scrambled eggs and a variety of breads and spreads.  As well as juices, teas and water there was an onsite barista on hand to whip up your morning brew or there was also a fully stocked bar should you like your brew to be something stronger. Unlike the QANTAS Domestic Lounges which only serve alcohol from midday, the International Lounge serves it from opening, I’m guessing people arriving, departing or transiting from different timezones might need a drink or, like me, they just want to start their trip with a ‘sparkling wine’ breakfast.
