Bangkok traffic can be horrendous during peak hour with it taking up to almost 2 hours to drive from Suvarnabhumi Airport to the city centre. I discovered the quickest and the cheapest way was the Airport Link, taking around 40 minutes at a cost of 45 Baht – yes thats just over $1.70 Aussie bucks – and by taking the train, you’re being environmentally friendly.

The trains are pretty comfortable and run every 30 minutes to and from Bangkok’s main International Airport, Suvarnabhumi to the city’s Phaya Thai station.

Phaya Thai Station links both the MRT and BTS to most major parts of the city centre.

Purchasing a ticket is quite simple with the machine displaying English or Thai scripts. After payment, you get a yellow plastic token to gain access to the station. If you get confused or don’t know how to get where you need to go, there are very friendly staff on hand to give you help.

One of the staff circled on a map where I needed to go and with my token and map in hand, I was on my way.

It really is a simple, efficient and cost effective way to get yourself from Bangkok’s main airport into the hustle and bustle of Bangkok with out the traffic!
